One Way...

Hi Parents!

You may have recently recieved a letter from Stephanie Hietbrink, our middle school small groups cooridnator talking about a shift in the way we'll be focusing on ministry this year. I want to echo those words and perhaps present some opportunites where you might be able to serve with us in a fun and exciting way. As Steph said, it has been a trend in the past for youth ministries to push parents aside and say, "“Parents, leave the ministry to us, the professionals.” That being the case, much of junior high and high school ministry was a drop-off, “See you later!” gig that required little parental involvement. However, as emphasized by numersous statistics and leading thinkers in the feilds of youth ministry & adolescent development , this mentality NEEDS to change. And so we come to you with a new mantra:

"Parents, we WANT you and we NEED you.”

We have repeatedly read in books and observed in our ministry that parents truly are the number one influencers in their child’s life. Pair that with the reality that we are ministering to an entire generation that feels abandoned by adults, and it becomes increasingly crucial that our ministry provides students with stable and caring adult relationships. Below, I hope you can find some opportunities, both big and small, that might motivate you to invest in your child’s and their peers’ relationship with Jesus.

Big Ways to serve:

- Small group leading

- Mentoring students (i.e. - proffesion of faith)

Small Ways to serve:

- Behind the Scenes prayer at TheMix

 - Volunteer to serve at TheShed (new snack stand located in TheFoundry)

- Chaperone an event at Third

- Set-up/clean-up for an event

- Set-up team

And so, we graciously ask that you would consider serving with us in ONE WAY this year at The Mix.

Thank you, in advance, for taking the time to consider this.  If you are interested in serving ONE WAY, please click here to fill out a form, or, if you have questions and want to discuss the possibility of serving, please contact myself or Steph Hietbrink.  Both our information can be found under the information section on the right-hand side of this web page.

Blessings,

Matt Terlouw
